ubc Access Control
policies & Procedures
Each unit on campus designates individuals responsible for
the management of access, including key issuance, to their
assigned university building space. To inquire about UBC key
signing authority please
It is the responsibility of those persons with UBC key
signing authority to manage the access of individuals to
university buildings. The UBC Key Desk facilitates the issuance
of keys and access cards/fobs and provides tools to
administrators to aid in access management.
Key Deposits
A key deposit of $20.00 is required from all faculty, staff and students when University keys are issued to them.
The key deposit is a personal security deposit and is not
payable through departmental funds, including UBC purchase
cards.
High Security, master, sub-master, and specialty keys require additional deposits which vary according to the level of access and risk.
Please note that several departments feel that an even higher deposit is warranted and have made special arrangements with Parking & Access Control to charge additional
security deposits.
Individual key deposits will be returned in full when all keys are returned to Parking & Access Control Services.

QuickFind
on-Line Key Desk
In our ongoing commitment to provide excellent customer
service while maintaining the security and integrity of the
university we launched an on-line access system for key signing
authorities in late 2006.
Starting with the Faculty of Arts we have been working with
administrators to provide a tool that will help key signing
authorities not only issue keys but also manage keys/access
cards in an efficient, secure and meaningful way.
We anticipate converting every unit on campus to the on-line
system by mid-summer 2008 and expect to 'do away' with all paper
forms by Dec 2008.

ubc key holder Possessing university keys has
some associated responsibility; not only are keys university
property, they also provide access to university property and
are therefore a responsibility directly related to the security
of any given area.
Please keep your keys in a secure place or on your person at
all times.
Do not lend your keys or 'pass on' your keys when you
leave the university.
When keys are no longer needed, please return them promptly
to our offices - not only is a security risk minimized, it also
allows for stock to be replenished ensuring access for the next
person who needs the appropriate key.
