Discounted Transit Program for CUPE116 staff

Effective June 1, 2023, CUPE116 regular status employees on Schedule A at or below Pay Grade 17a and on Schedule B at or below Pay Grade 5 will be eligible to the Discounted Transit Program.

Unlike the old pilot program where staff would see a payroll deduction on their pay cheque for the transit pass, participants in the program will now see a deposit of 50% of the cost of a monthly transit pass on their pay cheque each month that they are enrolled.

IMPORTANT: All staff enrolled in the Program MUST purchase a zone 1, 2, or 3 monthly transit pass through Translink in order for their pass to work.

Those not yet enrolled in the program must register through Workday before May 31, 2023, to start receiving the benefit in June 2023. If you miss the enrollment cut-off date you will have the opportunity to register for the July 2023 benefit. No retroactive enrollments will be allowed.

Those currently enrolled in the Discounted Transit Program, will be automatically enrolled in Workday before May 31, 2023. Staff will still be required to purchase the zone 1, 2, or 3 monthly transit pass through Translink for it to work.

Once you enroll in the Program, you will continue to receive the benefit every month in your pay cheque. However, there are some additional steps you will need to take to ensure compliance and eligibility. These requirements and details for enrolling can be found at the Information Package and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), available the HR website.

To ensure the funding for this Program is allocated efficiently, UBC will conduct periodic audits to ensure that only eligible employees are accessing this pass. If your situation changes, and you are no longer eligible, staff will be responsible for withdrawing from the program in Workday.

To get started and enroll in the Discounted Transit Program for eligible CUPE 116 employees, please review the details, eligibility criteria, and the terms of the program which are provided in the Information Packet and FAQ — including the Knowledge Base Article to enroll in the program. This information can also be found on the Human Resources website under CUPE 116 Benefits.
